In order to get the most out of your selection of spices, you should store them out of the light and heat. If the spices become too hot, or moist from humidity, it can shorten their shelf life. Too much light exposure also does this. Your spices will have a longer shelf life and retain their good taste if stored in a dark, cool spot. Keeping your spices fresh can improve the taste of every recipe you prepare. Freeze meat partially to facilitate slicing meat into thin strips. This method is great for oriental meals that require small strips. When the meat is partially frozen, cutting becomes cleaner as the meat fibers are less likely to tear or stretch. For even cooking, let the strips of meat thaw completely before you start to cook. Sharp knives are an essential tool. A dull knife will not only make it more difficult to slice and chop your ingredients, but it will also be a hazard to use. It is easy to cut yourself if you are using a dull knife than slicing it with a very sharp one. Cooking veggies improves the quality of them. Vegetables that have been slow-cooked are not as nutritional or tasty as vegetables that are cooked in other ways. Using these techniques will mean putting healthier food on the table. The less time you take to cook them, the better your vegetables will be. If burgers get stuck to the grill, it will be difficult to flip them without mangling them in the process. To prevent this in the future, brush a bit of vegetable oil onto the grates before adding the food. Always use airtight canisters or containers to store your dry goods, such as flour and sugar. These containers do two things to keep your food fresher: they keep bugs from entering them, and they keep air exposure to a minimum. These containers can be bought at just about any store. A useful tip when making chicken stock is to think big! Fill a large pot of stock and freeze it for later. Good chicken stock that you make at home makes a great starter for soups, casseroles, stews and other dishes. Once your stock is finished, cool it and put it in heavy freezer bags. Carefully measure the oil you cook with. To lower some fat content in foods, always measure your oil when you are cooking, do not pour it from the bottle right in the pan. That way, you will know precisely how much oil is going into the dish you are preparing. When serving a salad at a social gathering, keep the dressing in a dish to the side. Some people love dressing in great huge globs, while others like a lighter taste. Some folks don't like any dressing at all, (or are watching their weight) so leave the dressing of salads up to your guests. Offer a variety of dressings, so there will be something to everyone's taste. If you are cooking a roast and are short on time, make sure to leave the bone in. The bone can quicken the cooking process by distributing the heat directly to the inner portion of the joint. Once the roast has finished cooking, it is easy to go in there and remove the bone. As you can see, cooking can be easy. With the right techniques, creating delicious dishes for family and friends can suddenly become a breeze! Now that you have been introduced to these great tips and tricks, you just need to make the time to go and give them a try!
